 A Mother’s Day night drive in Dale County has ended in tragedy, leaving a family grieving and a 38-year-old man now facing a serious criminal charge after a crash claimed the life of his mother, authorities said.

According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, the crash happened around 10:30 p.m. Sunday on Dale County Road 1 at the intersection with Alabama Highway 92, about seven miles south of Enterprise. Investigators said a Jeep Commander left the roadway under unclear circumstances before striking a utility pole.

Officials confirmed that 66-year-old Linda D. White of Geneva was riding as a passenger in the vehicle driven by her son, Alfonzo L. Nance. She suffered fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders.

Authorities said White was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the collision. While investigators noted this in their initial findings, they have not yet released details on how much it may have contributed to the severity of the outcome.

Nance was also injured in the crash and was transported to Medical Center Enterprise for treatment.
