Matthew Driscoll Passing and Tribute: Cherished Student-Athlete Passes Away at 15 Following Fight Against Cancer

 Matthew Driscoll Death and Obituary – The community of Woburn and Arlington Catholic High School are mourning the devastating loss of Matthew J. Driscoll, a beloved son, brother, grandson, and friend, who departed on January 13 at the young age of 15 following a brave fight against cancer. Although his life was brief, Matthew’s strength, tenacity, and indomitable spirit left a profound impact on all who were privileged to know him.

Matthew was the adored son of Chad and Eve (Lawlor) Driscoll from Woburn. He had a close connection with his younger siblings, Sarah and Rory, taking on the role of a caring and protective older brother. His family remembers Matthew as a beacon of light, laughter, and support, with the principles of love and loyalty deeply embedded in his character.

As a committed student-athlete at Arlington Catholic High School, Matthew distinguished himself not only through his athletic abilities but also by demonstrating dedication, teamwork, and resolve. Educators, coaches, and teammates recall him as a young individual who faced every obstacle with bravery and relentless determination. Even while confronting significant personal hardships, he stayed devoted to his teammates and his studies, motivating those around him with his courage and steadfast spirit. From every angle, Matthew was indeed a warrior—both in sports and throughout life.

In addition to his sports accomplishments, Matthew was recognized for his gentleness and empathy. He possessed a special knack for uplifting the spirits of those around him, whether by offering a kind word, sharing a laugh, or just being a comforting presence. His bravery in facing cancer impacted numerous lives, reminding family, friends, and peers of the significance of hope, strength, and dignity.

Matthew was the cherished grandson of Joseph Lawlor from Arlington and the late Susan Lawlor, as well as the late John and Mary Driscoll of North Andover. He is survived by many aunts, uncles, and cousins, including Ryan Lawlor and Allison from Medford; Alison Russell and Kevin from Arlington; Beth and Dave Blanchard from Bradford; Dan and Rina Driscoll from Colorado Springs; Brian and Jackie Driscoll from Derry, New Hampshire; Ken and Cathy Driscoll from St. Petersburg, Florida; and the late John Driscoll and Ellen from Methuen. He also held a special bond with his dog Shamrock, whose companionship provided him with comfort and joy.

Though Matthew’s life encompassed an extraordinary fight against cancer, he will be remembered not for his illness but for the love, bravery, and joy he shared with those around him. Arlington Catholic High School stands with the Driscoll family in celebrating the memory of a student-athlete whose bravery, compassion, and perseverance left an everlasting impression on the community.
