Justin Dye Remembered After Devastating Motorcycle vs SUV Crash in Tulsa Leaves Community in Shock
Justin Dye, 46, died in a motorcycle crash in Tulsa after an SUV allegedly failed to yield while turning at 47th and Sheridan.
Authorities in Tulsa are investigating a fatal motorcycle crash that claimed the life of 46-year-old Justin Dye following a collision near 47th Street and Sheridan Road on Saturday afternoon. The crash, which occurred around 4:20 p.m., involved a motorcycle and an SUV and quickly drew a large emergency response from police, fire crews, and medical personnel in the area.
According to preliminary findings from investigators, a 2010 Lexus SUV driven by a 91-year-old motorist was traveling northbound on Sheridan Road when it attempted to make a left turn west onto 46th Street. At that moment, Dye was riding a 2024 Harley-Davidson motorcycle southbound on Sheridan, and authorities say the SUV allegedly failed to yield while turning, entering directly into the motorcycle’s path and triggering the collision.
The impact caused Dye to be thrown from his motorcycle, with witnesses reporting that bystanders immediately rushed to provide aid before emergency crews arrived. First responders continued life-saving efforts at the scene before transporting him to a nearby hospital in critical condition. Despite those efforts, officials confirmed that Dye later died from his injuries.
The driver of the SUV was also taken to a hospital for evaluation and was later released. Investigators have not indicated that the driver sustained serious injuries. At this stage, authorities have not announced any charges, as the case remains under active review by crash investigators who are working to determine the full sequence of events leading up to the impact.
Police said the intersection area was heavily canvassed following the crash, with investigators gathering physical evidence and speaking to witnesses who were in the vicinity at the time. Officials also confirmed that a nearby resident’s home surveillance system may have captured video footage of the collision. That footage is expected to play a key role in reconstructing how the crash occurred and whether any additional factors contributed to the deadly outcome.
Emergency officials described the scene as chaotic in the immediate aftermath, with multiple bystanders attempting to assist the injured rider while traffic was redirected around the intersection. The area remained partially restricted for several hours as investigators documented evidence, cleared debris, and worked to restore normal traffic flow once the scene was secured.
Community members familiar with the area expressed concern about traffic safety at busy intersections like Sheridan and 47th, where vehicle turns and through traffic often converge. The crash has renewed attention on awareness and caution at intersections, particularly where motorcycles and larger vehicles share the roadway during peak travel hours.
As the investigation continues, authorities say they are reviewing all available evidence, including witness statements and potential video recordings, to determine whether additional contributing factors played a role. Officials have not released further details but confirmed that updates will be provided as the case progresses through the investigative process in Tulsa.
