Jaqwavion Carlisle Killed in Early Morning Meridian Shooting as Police Search for Suspect
Jaqwavion Carlisle, 21, died after being shot during a disturbance in Meridian, Mississippi; suspect remains at large as investigation continues.
A 21-year-old Meridian man, Jaqwavion Carlisle, has died following an early morning shooting that authorities say is now being investigated as the city’s second homicide of the year. The incident has drawn renewed attention to late-night violence in the area as officials begin piecing together what happened in the gunfire.
According to the Meridian Police Department, officers were called around 1:30 a.m. Sunday to reports of a disturbance and physical altercation in the parking lot of the Council of Organizations, Inc., located at 814 45th Avenue, where multiple people had reportedly gathered before the situation escalated.
As officers arrived at the scene, investigators say a gunshot was fired during the encounter, striking Carlisle and triggering an immediate emergency response from those nearby, who attempted to assist before first responders arrived.
Emergency responders provided urgent medical aid at the scene before transporting him to a local hospital, but despite lifesaving efforts, Carlisle was later pronounced dead, officials confirmed, marking a tragic outcome for those involved.
Investigators said the suspect fled immediately after the shooting. Witnesses described a Black male wearing a gray hoodie who was last seen running northbound along 44th Avenue as police began securing the scene.
As of now, police have not confirmed any arrests in connection with the case, and detectives are continuing to review evidence, surveillance footage, and witness statements to determine what led to the confrontation.
The shooting has left family members and friends grieving the sudden loss, as community members in Meridian express concern about ongoing violence and call for answers while urging anyone with information to come forward.
Authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident or the suspect’s whereabouts to contact the Meridian Police Department as they continue working to piece together the events of that early morning investigation.
