Bryans Road Man Dequan Gravely Dies After Collision With School Bus in Prince George’s County Crash

 A Friday morning commute in Accokeek, Maryland turned deadly after a collision involving a school bus and multiple vehicles left a 23-year-old man dead and sent several others to the hospital, according to the Prince George’s County Police Department.

Officers were called shortly before 7:30 a.m. to the intersection of Indian Head Highway and Pine Drive after reports of a serious crash involving a school bus and two other vehicles. When emergency crews arrived, they found a chaotic scene with significant vehicle damage and debris scattered across the roadway.

Police confirmed that Dequan Gravely, 23, of Bryans Road, was driving one of the passenger vehicles involved in the collision. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities said the school bus driver was also injured and transported to a hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

Investigators said preliminary findings suggest that Gravely was traveling north on Indian Head Highway and approaching Pine Drive at the same time a school bus was making a left turn from the southbound lanes onto Pine Drive. The two vehicles collided in the intersection, causing the bus to overturn onto its side.

A third vehicle passing through the area was struck by debris from the crash, though the driver did not require medical treatment. The scene required an extensive emergency response as crews worked to assist the injured, secure the overturned bus, and clear wreckage from one of the region’s busiest commuter corridors.

At this time, authorities have not determined what caused the vehicles to collide in the intersection. Investigators are reviewing traffic patterns, signal timing, sightlines, and other possible contributing factors as part of a full reconstruction of the crash.

Prince George’s County Police emphasized that the investigation remains active and ongoing. Officials are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash or captured relevant information to contact the Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit as they work to establish a clear timeline of events.

The crash has left the Bryans Road community mourning the sudden loss of Dequan Gravely, as friends and family remember a young life cut short during what began as a routine morning drive.
